Other Configuration

How to choose the right sort of carbon fiber prepreg?

    1. T300 / T700 / T800:
        Larger number of "T" means higher tensile strength and higher modulus 

    2. 1k / 3k / 12k / 20k:
       Higher number in "k" means more carbon fiber filaments in a single bunch, when weaving the carbon fiber cloth, it is weaving the bunches together to plain or twill texture. To meet a certain mechanical requirements like tensile strength, less "k" number needs better performance carbon fiber filaments, which means larger "k" number will usually be less cost in some certain cases.

    3. 200g (5.8 oz) / 400g:
        It is FAW (Fiber Area Weight), the unit is usually measured as 200g / m^2   (5.8 oz / ft^2), larger FAW will lead to thicker of the product.
        For example, for cars' carbon fiber bumpers and side skirts, to meet the machenical requirements, we usually using 200g and 400g ones stacking together to build up 1.2mm thickness of the products, while for drone structual plates we use 400g ones to build up 4-5mm thickness.  
   
   4. Why is our Woven Prepreg's Tensile Strength is "Lower" than "Some Standards" on google?
        For example, the T300 Standard of Tensile Strength 3530 MPa (512 Ksi) is tested under following condition:
        a) A single filament (not a plate or a baord) tensile directly along its stretching direction (not on any other angle)
        b) No resin is soaked (have no chemical influence to the single filament)

        With our prepreg's data, we are testing the stacking prepreg cured as a whole plate, and it is different in the following ways:
        a) The layers inside the plate is woven as 0°,90° (or ± 45°), and when testing the tensile strength is not directly along the stretching of filaments. This might cut down 1/2 (even more) of the testing results.
        b) The carbon fiber cloth is soaked with resin, which would somehow reduce the tensile strength by 1/2. 
        c) We usually filling the data by -10%, like 900 MPa we will give it 900*90%=810 MPa as the result.
      
        When adjusting our [3k T300 FAW 200g] carbon fiber plate's tensile strength data to the filament's performance (800*4/90%=3555 MPa) would return to the "normal" standard.
